Hi, I’m Piyush Shah

Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technologist

I design, program, and commission control systems, from 4–20 mA instrumentation loops and Allen-Bradley PLC logic to FactoryTalk HMIs and BACnet/Modbus building automation networks. My computer science background adds Python, data analysis, and machine learning to classical instrumentation, a combination that lets me solve plant-floor problems with modern tools.

About

Controls-focused technologist with real commissioning experience.

I am an Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology student at Red River College Polytechnic, graduating December 2026, currently on co-op commissioning building automation systems on live BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU networks. Before that, I built and tested 50+ industrial control panels as an electrical technician, so I know controls from the wire-and-terminal level up to the program-and-network level.

My lab and project work centres on Allen-Bradley CompactLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE, PID/PIDE loop tuning, ISA-18.2 alarm design, and 4–20 mA instrumentation. Two years of computer science at the University of Manitoba added Python, data analysis, and machine learning, skills I apply to predictive maintenance and SCADA-style data visualization.

Work experience

BAS Controls Specialist (Co-op)

May 2026 – Present

ICS (Integrated Control Solutions) · Winnipeg, MB

  • Commission and program building automation systems on live BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU fieldbus networks over RS-485.
  • Configure and troubleshoot HVAC field devices (sensors, actuators, and controllers) across commercial building installations.
  • Interpret control drawings and sequences of operation to implement and verify correct system behaviour on-site.
  • Work with project engineers to resolve integration issues between BAS controllers and third-party equipment.

Electrical Technician

Jun 2025 – Sep 2025

Tamarack Industries · Winnipeg, MB

  • Assembled and wired 50+ industrial control panels and chassis harnesses for glycol heating equipment from schematic drawings, to client specifications and industrial standards.
  • Performed wire cutting, routing, crimping, and connector termination; conducted functional testing and inspections with near-zero defects in completed units.
  • Collaborated with engineers to troubleshoot production issues, minimizing downtime and improving assembly efficiency.
